Recently there has been a lot of talk about the minimum wage. So many people are on the fence about whether it is a good thing or not. Personally I believe the minimum wage is needed. If there was no minimum wage, a person could be working for a dollar an hour for a job that should be paying a lot more than that.
Teenagers typically rely on these minimum wage jobs. These jobs are not usually the best and most desired postitions, but because of the starting price kids are settling for them. If these jobs were not paying the amount they are now, NO ONE would take them, because we would not be making enough to even barely support ourselves.
As Franklin Roosevelt said on the situation, "All but the hopelessly reactionary will agree that to conserve our primary resources of man power, government must have some control over maximum hours, minimum wages, the evil of chil labor and the exploitation of unorganized labor." Minimum wage is much needed and should remain the same.

ReplyDeletePersonally I completely agree and believe minimum wage is an excellent standard that takes place in the world. I do feel that minimum wage will fluctuate with time due to economic struggles but that cannot be prevented. Minimum wage should stay the same because if it is raised it might seem like you are making more money but in turn with this, tax would increase and basic standard living cost would all increase so that the government would not be loosing money. Regards to all that, do you think our world would be effected if minimum wage was to rise or fall by .50 cents?
ReplyDeleteI do not believe that most people look at the minimum wage in such a positive manner as you do, focusing on the fact that at least it creates a price floor that businesses cannot pay less than. In that sense, it is totally positive. Using President Franklin's words to drive home this idea was smart. Another person commented on your blog and mentioned that if the minimum wage were to increase, all of the cost of living would rise as well. It does seem to be the case. How do you feel about just raising the minimum wage for certain age groups, i.e. adults with children to support?
ReplyDeleteAlthough I don't think that the minimum wage should increase, if it were to be raised by a mere .50 cents, I don't think it would not affect anything at all really. If the minimum wage were to be raised for certain age groups and not others, then the people making less would complain that was unfair. I feel that would be a mistake to make minimum wage vary for different people.
ReplyDeleteI believe the minimum wage is needed because without it, many people, especially the young, could be exploited into taking jobs that pay a ridiculously low wage for their hard work. An increase in minimum wage also makes sense because with the minimum wage that we have now, a full time worker with a minimum wage job is still living in poverty. Do you believe the minimum wage should be increased?
